Microcurrent Esthetics
When people first hear about Microcurrent Therapy (MCT) they assume its something new, something ‘alternative’ but neither of these are true. MCT has been around of 100’s of years, its first mainstream recognition came in 1991, the German scientists Dr. Erwin Neher and Dr. Bert Sakmann shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their work with microcurrent and the immune system.
(see below for TED talks on microcurrent therapy revolutionizing healthcare)
In the interim there have been 1000’s of studies, recently the National Institutes of Health raised the research rating on MCT to an “A” rating, their highest level. MCT is used for internal medicine, treatment of chronic pain, wound healing, mental health and esthetics.
In order to understand how Microcurrent works, it’s helpful to understand the concepts of the “current of injury” and the “current of healing”. Living tissues have bioelectric circuits that originate within the body. When the tissue is injured, current leaks from the skin and a short circuit occurs causing a “current of injury” The circuit can be restored thru external means, like microcurrent therapy. The “current of healing” induced by microcurrent therapy plays an important role in healing injured tissues.
Microcurrent facials are one of the leading-edge services offered in the anti-aging industry and there is a good reason for this. Using sub-sensory microcurrent impulses they give almost instant, visible results to tighten, tone and firm aging skin. In fact, the results from microcurrent facial are so dramatic that they are often referred to as ‘non-surgical face lifts.
Although Microcurrent has become a ‘buzz-word’ in the esthetics world its important to keep in mind not all microcurrent is the same. The sophistication of the equipment delivering the current makes a dramatic difference in the effectiveness of the treatment. At Bhakti Wellness Center we use one of the few biofeedback based devices available on the market today. This means our equipment is not just delivering a one-size-fits-all treatment, it is reading your skin’s response to the treatment and calibrating its self for an increasingly customized treatment to maximize your results.
Microcurrent facials offer you a gentle non-surgical treatment to fight the signs of aging resulting in visibly firmer and smoother skin. Microcurrent equipment delivers low frequency electrical currents that work in harmony with the body to gently and effectively ‘re-educate the muscles’. As the body ages, muscles and surrounding tissue weaken causing the skin to sag and droop. This non-invasive approach helps to restore elasticity, brining a more defined, toned and youthful appearance to your skin.
