Healing stones were one of the first things I was drawn to as I became more spiritually awakened. They are versatile and useful, and very pleasing to the eye. Healing stones can help with spiritual, mental, emotional and even physical health. In this article we will discuss the healing characteristics of a few stones that I have found personally helpful. Most stones correspond to specific chakras or energy centers in the body. There are 7 main chakras that move up the spine.

Hematite was the first stone I ever gravitated towards instinctually. It is mainly used for grounding and protection. It can even be used in the corners of a room or property to help protect and ward off negativity. Hematite is beneficial with mental organization and logical thinking. Emotionally it is calming and decreases negativity. It also has the capability to boost self-esteem. Physically it has been known to cool the body and blood disorders, along with lessening anxiety. Hematite is a wonderful stone, essential in any collection.

Red jasper has a grounding vibration that makes it ideal when working with the root chakra (1st chakra). It is also helpful with emotional equilibrium. This stone enhances insight into personal difficulties and provides a strong sense of stability. It is effective in stimulating the kundalini, also used in dream work to help with recall. Red jasper can also be used for protection as well as aiding with physical disorders with the heart and diabetes. It is a wonderful stone to start root chakra work.

Another useful stone with the root chakra is garnet. Garnet is slightly more expensive than red jasper and worth the investment especially if you are working with depression or anger issues as it brings light and joy in. It stimulates survival instinct, will power and courage. Garnet is a useful tool for relationships of all kinds. Also a grounding stone that works with kundalini energy as well as protection. This stone carries a fire like energy that regenerates and revitalizes. Either of these stones would be an excellent addition to a chakra set or to start chakra work. When doing chakra work it is advantageous to start from the root and move up.

A classic stone that is commonly associated with the sacral chakra (2nd chakra) is carnelian. It is readily available at most holistic or crystal shops. This stone grounds and anchors you to present reality. It stimulates creativity and motivation, removes fear of death and promotes positive life choices. It also restores vitality. Carnelian is used to overcome abuse of any kind, the inner child, who holds trauma lives in the sacral chakra. Protects against rage, envy and resentment. Improves analytical abilities, it is a stone full of life force. The physical benefits are extensive, ranging from increasing fertility, helping with lower back pain and arthritis especially in the elderly. Carnelian has the ability to regulate bodily fluids and kidneys.

Another stone useful for the health of the sacral chakra is orange calcite. Calcite naturally comes in several colors, that share common healing characteristics, orange resonates most with the second chakra. It is known to be highly energizing and cleansing. It can balance emotions and remove fear, helpful in overcoming depression. This stone maximized potential while letting problems dissipate. Physically it helps to heal the reproductive system, gall bladder and intestinal disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

A unique aspect of the heart chakra (4th chakra) is that it has two different colors that correlate with it, both green and pink. As such we will look at a green stone aventurine, and a pink stone rose quartz. They are both commonly used with the heart chakra, each with interesting healing characteristics. First there is rose quartz, the stone of unconditional love and infinite peace. It is considered by many to be the most important stone for the heart chakra. It purifies and opens the heart as well as attracts romantic love. Aids in acceptance of necessary change, and enhances positive affirmations. It’s a beneficial stone emotionally because it releases unexpressed emotions and heart ache. Also encourages self-forgiveness and acceptance while invoking self-love and selftrust. Physically rose quartz strengthens the physical heart and circulatory system. Heals kidneys and adrenals and alleviates vertigo.

The other stone is aventurine. Most of the time when people bring up this stone they are referring to green aventurine as we are now. It is a very positive stone of prosperity. Has ability to protect against environmental pollution. Also defuses negative situations and turns them around. Psychologically it reinforces leadership qualities and decisiveness. Promotes compassion and empathy while encouraging perseverance. It can stimulate perception, allowing ability to see possibilities and alternatives. Calms anger and irritation, and promotes a feeling of well-being. Physically it assists the thymus gland, connective tissue, and nervous system. Helps prevent heart attacks and migraines.

Both of these heart stones are beneficial and unique in their own right. The heart chakra is the bridge between the upper and lower chakras needing awareness and healing to best aid you on your life’s journey. These stones can help you live a happy, healthy, life full of love and compassion.

Healing stones are beautiful and can help in any aspect of your life. Love is in the Earth and Crystal Bible are two wonderful reference books to learn more about healings stones and how they can impact your life.
