Enneagram of Holy Ideas
The Enneagram is a system representing 9 views of reality and their relationship with each other. It is used in many different ways ranging from personality typing to deep spiritual realization to cosmology. Its origins are still being debated, some saying it is an ancient Middle Eastern system others saying it is a modern psychological construct. Which ever is true does not have much bearing on its value to us today. The Enneagram does its job very well, in that it provides a structured method with an internal logic, for looking into ones own ways of being. Finding the our knots, limitations, barriers, unconscious beliefs, ego fixations and offering solutions for how to move beyond them and express more of our true nature.
The Enneagram of Holy Ideas is a specific version of the Ennagram which focus our attention on 9 essential aspects of our True Nature and helps us uncover them from the depths of our ego self, clearing away the debris that has hidden them from us. Then helping us integrate them into our personality and how we live our lives.
The Holy Ideas are:
Truth, Love, Perfection, Will, Hope (Harmony), Origin, Omniscience, Strength(Faith) and Wisdom.
For example the Holy Perfection tells us that everything is perfect just as it is, yet there is suffering in the world, maybe you are suffering right now. So how can we accept that everything is perfect. Students say, "if I accept that then I have to accept suffering and if I accept it then it will go on for ever. I want suffering to end, suffering is not ok, its not perfect." The Holy Ideas invites us to transcend this apparent paradox, to find the truer truth of True Nature.
Class start date: TBD
Class day & time: Every other Sunday, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Course tuition: $250
Passions & Virtues
Passions & Virtues Course is a 12 class course covering the 9 passions and virtues associated with each Enneagram type.
Virtues are heart qualiies and are expressed by us when we are abiding in our True Nature. As one loses awareness and presence, falling away from the Self into the personality, the loss of contact with one’s Virtue creates the enviroment for a Passion to manifest. We all have the capacity to embody each of the Virtues, some of them may be more central to our identity. Thus we tend to repeat behavoirs arising from one passion more than the others.
For Point 1, when the self is at rest in the Self the heart is at peace knowing everything is as it should be. This brings about a sense of Serenity, the virtue of Point 1. When the self loses contact with the Self the heart is disturbed and Serenity turns to anger, the passion of Point 1. In this class you will explore what life experiences take you out of Serenity and into Anger. You will also discover the barriers which prevent you from moving from Anger to Serenity and how to dissolve those barriers. Most of us live closer to our passions than to our True Nature. So we start where we are, working with what is tangeble to us - our passions. From there we work back to our virtues then the Holy Ideas, then True Nature.

8 Limbs of Yoga Course
This is not an exercise class. This course will be an overview of the science of yoga as a method for personal growth and the cultivation of wellbeing. We will briefly cover the major aspects of the 8 limbs of yoga as held in the traditions and how to apply them in a modern life practice.
For example the first aspect of the first limb is non-violence, ahimsa. What does it mean to practice non-violence in our every day lives? To practice non-violence in how you talk to your self, how you talk to others? To be a non-violent consumer?

A bit about the class:
This class is largely lecture with serveral practice mediations through out the class to practice the techniques we are discussing. My goal with this introduction is to help students choose a meditation style, better understand the purpose of meditation and to provide them with the tools to establish and more importantly maintain a mediation practice.
For this class we will be sitting in chairs though students are welcome to sit on the floor if they prefer. All you need to bring with you is a note book if you are a note taker and an open mind.
Here are a number of the topics we will cover:

Emotional Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence Course
With Guy Odishaw, Bhakti Meditation Center
What are emotions? What are they good for? These are two very important questions and after 40 years of in depth research meaningful answers are emerging. This course weaves together the findings of numerous fields of research such as psychology, sociology, philosophy, organizational development, interpersonal neurobiology, human flourishing and more.
Emotions are powerful forces that shape the contours of our lives. The goal of the EI course is to have your emotions rather than being had by them. Learn to work with and utilize these natural forces to enrich your life.
Emotional intelligence consists of four attributes:
•Self-awareness
• Self-management
• Social awareness
• Relationship management
Emotional intelligence affects:
• Your performance at work.
• Your physical health.
• Your mental health.
• Your relationships.
In the Emotional Intelligence course you will learn about the 5 basic emotions in depth. Learn their function, purpose and the gift each brings when properly understood. You will also learn two skills you can use in any moment to easily manage difficult emotions and emotional states when they arise. Allowing you to quickly shift out of emotional reactivity, regain your balanced state. In addition to these skills you will learn about your emotional strengths and weaknesses and how to improve your emotional intelligence.
This course is a mix of lecture, practical exercises and self inquiry. Students should come prepared to explore their own emotional intelligence in safe, structured exercises with their fellow students. We learn and grow together.
