One of my favorite quotes from my beloved teacher is, “…the solution to every problem is more love…”
This quote says so much to me, one of the ways I make meaning out of it is in the form of my own summary insight into the ‘solution to every problem’. For me this has come to mean growth in consciousness is the fundamental solution to every problem. This is to say, our reflex to close, harden and polarize into an us vs them mindset in the face of a ‘problem’ could be replaced with a reflex to open, soften and expand into a we mindset.
This is not to say that there will be no us vs them situation needing our attention and direct action. We need to act in our lives but there is no doubt the action taken after the ‘we‘ has been located and entered into will be very different than the action taken from the closed, polarized perspective.
Sample practice:
When a ‘problem’ arises notice your tendency to solidify into the separate one. To ever so slightly bodily contract, to psychologically contract – perhaps you feel more defined. This can feel good, powerful, strong – we tend to like it. Notice this. Then try to orient toward what is outside this boundary of self, this contraction. Can you expand to include more of it, all of it. If not, why not, what are the barriers, the resistance? If so, how does it feel, what is the effect on the separate and separating one?
