Biodynamic Cranial Sacral Therapy

Life is motion. In our bodies there are many rhythms, the heart beat, breath, digestion, cellular metabolism, cranial motion and nervous system motility. These are expressions of life and when their movement is impaired so is our health. Over 100 years ago Dr. Sutherland recognized that there was a force, a Potency, behind all these rhythms which he termed the Breath of Life. It is out of the Breath of Life that the rhythms of craniosacral therapy emerge, Primary Respiration, Fluid Tide, and the movement of the cranial bones themselves – the Cranial Rhythmic Impulse (CRI)

This primal rhythm, Primary Respiration, can be seen in the most basic form of life, protoplasm. Dr. Sutherland felt this fundamental rhythm to be moving in a cycles 50 seconds in length. It wasn’t until scientists discovered this same cycle in protoplasmic streaming that Dr. Sutherlands intuition found it’s first piece of external validation.
It is trust in the organizing effect of Primary Respiration that differentiates biodynamic cranial sacral therapy for other forms of cranial sacral therapy. Dr. Sutherland, and many practitioners since him, found the more he trusted in this organizing force the more effective his treatments became.

In other forms of this work the practitioner follows a protocol and imposes their ideas of ‘normal’ on the clients system. In the biodynamic approach the therapist waits for the inherent treatment plan to arise from Primary Respiration. It is the clients own innate intelligence which does the creative problem solving. Healing comes from within the client not imposed from the outside by the therapist.
Since Dr. Sutherlands discovery and long career his work has been carried on and refined by the likes of Dr. Rollin Becker, Dr. John Upledger, Michael Shea, Franklin Sills, Hugh Milne and many, many more.

Deep Tissue Massage

A more intense massage to reach deep muscle layers, and address points of attachment as well as the belly of the muscles. This focused massage is slow and coordinated with deep breathing.

Microcurrent Therapy (see below for TED talks on microcurrent revolutionizing medicine)

Through a scanning process these instruments work by identifying and highlighting abnormal tissue function/response, indicating damage and the need for healing and repair in that area. After identifying the damaged tissue, it is able to adjust itself, and produce an electric current which “normalizes or corrects” the damaged tissue. This corrective, low voltage electrical current actually regenerates injured tissue, i.e. bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments. It promotes the body’s own healing mechanisms by initiating repairs at the cellular level, and assisting the body in its cellular and connective repair at an accelerated rate.

Essentially, our instruments work by organizing these “chaotic” ions so that the tissue can repair itself. It also improves blood flow and increases blood and oxygen to the site of injury.

An additional benefit realized is the detoxification or “cleansing” of the tissue around this injury. When positive to negative current flows across a damaged cell membrane, the result is a discharge that displaces toxins and accelerates healing.

Our instruments also reduce spasm and fibrosis (scarring) in muscle tissue through fascia release, allowing the muscle to resume its natural length resulting in improved range of motion. Our instruments quiet the nervous system by re-establishing nerve conduction.

The Electro-Acuscope monitors nerve conduction between two electrodes, and this is how the current amplitude and voltage output is adjusted and controlled. The Acuscope utilizes a complex waveform that mimics a nerve impulse.

The Electro-Myopulse measures the Bio-Impedance of the muscle tissue between the two electrodes. This is how the current amplitude and voltage output is adjusted and controlled. The Myopulse utilizes a sine wave, which mimics the wave produced when a muscle first contracts.
